Epilepsy Canada

This year, High North has chosen Epilepsy Canada as its charitable recipient.

Since 1966, Epilepsy Canada has been dedicated to positively affecting the lives of those living with Epilepsy. Their sole mandate is to raise funds for research with the goal of finding a cure.

What Is Epilepsy?

Epilepsy is a debilitating neurological disorder characterized by repeated seizures of various types and severity.

Epilepsy and Seizures result from abnormal circuit activity in the brain. Any event ranging from faulty wiring during brain development, brain inflammation, physical injury or infection can lead to seizure and epilepsy. However, according to recent estimates, in up to 50% of patients diagnosed with Epilepsy, the cause is unknown.

Epilepsy does not discriminate and can begin at any time during a person’s life. Almost 380,000 Canadians have Epilepsy.

Through our generous tournament supporters, The High North Fore20 Charity Golf Classic has proudly raised over $35,00.00 for deserving charities since its inception. Each year we strive to raise the bar for this event to better support those in our community, funding life-saving treatments and research.

Together we are helping to lead the charge toward a world without Epilepsy.

Epilepsy Canada is a registered Canadian charity dedicated to positively affecting the lives of those living with Epilepsy. It demonstrates the need for research by highlighting key issues related to those whose seizures cannot be controlled through existing medication and treatments and the tragic cases of SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death from Epilepsy). Through their active financial support of Epilepsy research, Epilepsy Canada strives to help the Canadian neurology community find a cure for the disease.
